Born Cameron Bouchea Thomas, he was a consensus five-star prospect and one of the greatest shooting guards in the 2020 class.

Cam was born in Yokosuka to Leslie Thomas, who lived there at the time.

His mother, Leslie, also played basketball in high school and middle school in Virginia.
She reported that she joined the Army in 1990 and served for four years at Fort Riley, Kansas, Daegu, South Korea, and Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

“The Army teaches you discipline.” It teaches you to be punctual. And I was proud of it,” Leslie Thomas, a single mother who reared her children, said.
“When Cameron was younger, I frequently told him to hurry up. Rather than being late, I’d prefer you arrive early. To put it simply, I despise being late.
Go there so that you can mentally prepare. And I’ve been instilling those principles in him since he was a child. And I’m delighted he still does it.”
Thomas has followed his mother’s instructions. He claims that he always gets up early, comes on time for appointments, and keeps a regular routine.
On the court, he avoids trash-talking and maintains a serious approach.
And Leslie Thomas recalls recognizing her son’s interest for basketball when he was about ten years old and excelling against older children.
While she considered hiring basketball trainers, she decided to take the lead in his training by driving him to the South Norfolk Community Center in Chesapeake, Virginia, where they would practice their fundamentals and shooting techniques, sometimes twice a day.
Leslie is unquestionably a fantastic mom, and Cam has worked tirelessly to make her proud.
